What is The Economic Times Young Leaders Program?
The Economic Times Young Leaders Program is a platform that recognizes and rewards India's bright young talent. This initiative is meant to encourage, identify and nurture promising future business leaders of India Inc.
How does The Economic Times Young Leaders Program work?
The Program is divided into 4 Phases.
  • Phase 1 - Online Personality Test - A simple 20-min personality test
  • Phase 2 - Online Aptitude Test - Evaluation of verbal & numeric skills
  • Phase 3 – On-ground Assessments - Group discussions to determine one's leadership qualities
  • Phase 4 - One-on-one Interviews with CEOs - Interact with blue-chip CEOs and make it to the list
Shortlisted candidates from each phase move to the next. A list of The Economic Times Young Leaders is arrived at the end of assessments across four phases.

What are the eligibility criteria for the program?
  • You should be in the age band of 26 to 32 years (D.O.B. range between and including 4 June 1987 to 4 June 1993)
  • You must be a resident Indian national working as an employee in the corporate sector in India
  • You must not be an entrepreneur or owner/founder of the company you are currently working at during the duration of the program
How can I participate in The Economic Times Young Leaders Program?
You can participate in either of the two ways:

  • Corporate Nomination - Request your Human Resource colleague to contact us at brandet@timesgroup.com . Your participation will need to be endorsed formally by your company.
What happens in each phase of the program?

Phase 1: Online Personality Test - A simple 20-min personality test

  • Register on our website (Click here)
  • You will receive a One Time Password on your phone which is needed to complete your registration
  • Once your registration is complete, you will receive a unique User ID & Password via email to take the test
  • Take the test on the provided link
  • If you get shortlisted you will be informed via email

Phase 2: Online Aptitude Test - Evaluation of verbal & numeric skills

  • When you log on to the test website, you will be asked to take three tests - analytical and verbal and personality
  • The time limit for first two is approximately 45 minutes, after which the session will expire. You can take this test only once followed by 30 minutes personality assessment
  • You can take each test only once and will not be allowed to repeat it
  • If you get shortlisted you will be informed via email

Phase 3: On-ground Assessments - Group discussions to determine one's leadership qualities

  • This phase will be conducted in select city
  • Your test center will be communicated to you via
  • For the on-ground assessment, you will be part of a group of eight-ten people and will be evaluated through a series of group tasks, role plays, etc.
  • You also will have to take the online verification test during the on-ground assessment
  • The duration of each group assessment is approximately four hours
  • If you get shortlisted you will be informed via email

Phase 4: One-on-one Interviews with CEOs - Interact with blue-chip CEOs and make it to the list

  • This phase will be conducted in select city
  • Your interview location will be communicated to you via
  • In this phase your interview will be conducted by a senior industry leader
  • We request you to be at the venue at least 30 minutes before the scheduled time of interview
  • If you make it to The Economic Times Young Leaders list you will be informed via email

You will be required to submit relevant documentation as and when requested during the relevant phases of the program.

How will participants be assessed through the course of the program?
Participants are evaluated on nine leadership competencies. These have been selected basis inputs from our panel of CEOs and SHL's assessment framework.
  • Adapting and responding to change
  • Analysing
  • Deciding and initiating action
  • Delivering results and meeting customer expectations
  • Entrepreneurial and commercial thinking
  • Formulating strategies and concepts
  • Leading and supervising
  • Relating and networking
  • Working with people
What are the important information areas regarding the tests and assessments?
  • The tests and assessments are only for individuals, and not teams
  • Online personality assessment questions do not have any right or wrong answers
  • There is no negative marking in any of the phases, however, in case of online tests, scores will improve with increased number of correctly answered questions
  • The top scorers in each phase will move forward to the next phase (there is no maximum or minimum cut-off)
  • Answers once submitted cannot be changed
  • Individual scores at each phase will not be revealed
  • Test Duration:
    • Phase 1 - Online personality test: Not timed (Approx. time taken: 15 minutes)
    • Phase 2 - Online aptitude test:
      • Verbal ability assessment – Timed - 19 minutes
      • Numerical ability assessment – Timed - 25 minutes
      • Personality assessment - Not timed (Approx. time: 30 minutes)
    • Phase 3 - On-ground assessments: Approx. 4 hours
    • Phase 4 - One-on-one interviews with CEOs: Approx. 30-45 minutes
What are the costs associated with the Program?
There is no participation fee in The Economic Times Young Leaders program. However, if and when required, you will be required to make your own travel and stay arrangements, and pay for the same.
If my system hangs during the online assessments, will I have to start all over again?
Only in case of Personality assessment in Phase 1 and 2, the test will resume from where you left off last. However, for Numeric and Verbal sections please email us at etyoungleaders@timesgroup.in
Important Pointers
  • Participants will not receive a report after each assessment
  • At the end of each phase, you can view the results on our the website
  • Shortlisted candidates will also receive an email on their registered email id
  • Kindly visit the website frequently for updates
